Begin the journey of the senses.  This first installment introduces the night, the importance of symbolic thinking and the psychological energies of Dionysius and Apollo.

The custom of toasting to someone’s health, clinking glasses together is rich in symbolic meaning. First of all, wine has the property, in low doses, of dissolving the worries and anxieties of life, of creating a better condition for concentration.

One way to reconnect with mythos is through experiencing and contemplating symbols. A symbol is a visible image of an invisible reality, a mystery that can never be fully known. Grapevines can symbolically represent human lives.

On Thursday, April 21 the Self & Soul Center sponsored our first Wine and Psyche evening. We wanted to offer an evening that was fun, deep, creative and promoted a sense of community. We think we succeeded in all four of these.
